January 8th, 2009 at 02:07:47 kadleckyle, It's the line about "their home in the sky..." It was widely known back when this song came out that that was a put-down of religious belief. It always wrecked what is an otherwise beautiful song for me -- even when I was an atheist! For the record: most people who call themselves "Christian" are lying blasphemers and I oppose them. The Old Order Amish are probably the only true Christians. I get sick of all the putdowns of belief; didn't mean to stir up all the atheists.

If the song were to belittle atheists, it would be gratuitously insulting to THEM, wouldn't it? Like Lennon's "Imagine", the arrogant conceit of it distracts from what would otherwise be a pretty song. Some atheists think that they are geniuses and everyone else is an idiot.
