Of course Taliban would want people to think they gave up, because that would allow them more time to rearm. Not that I would be disappointed if they did, but it's hard to believe that people who are so "dedicated" to this religious cause are going to drop it now. It just strategically makes sense to whisper a rumor that they gave up. It's what I'd do.

They did this by drawing first blood on us, and instead of going after them, the Taliban, we went after Iraq to get Saddam, because Bush couldn't let go of his father's prospects after the Gulf War.

What was overlooked, however, was the risk that granting a loan to literally anyone who can walk.
