Re:SaveTheInternet

Response to the save the internet video. This is just a ramble about why I believe saving the internet is not possible but the idea is already happening and in motion. So perhaps saving the internet is going to really be the same thing as not saving it. I support the idea. This is just my ramble on the ideas around the politics of the subject. Breaking News: Historic Win for Net Neutrality!

http://SavetheInternet.com August 1, 2008 -- WASHINGTON -- Today, the Federal Communications Commission voted to punish Comcast, the nation's largest cable company, for blocking users' access to the open Internet. In a landmark decision, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and Commissioners Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein approved an "enforcement order" that would require Comcast to stop blocking and publicly disclose its methods for interfering with Internet traffic. Josh Silver, executive director of Free Press, issued the following statement: "The FCC's bipartisan decision to punish Comcast is a major victory. Defying every ounce of conventional wisdom in Washington, everyday people have taken on a major corporation and won an historic precedent for an open Internet." Save the Internet: your turn

http://SavetheInternet.com Tens of thousands of public comments supporting Net Neutrality flooded the Federal Communications Commission before the close of the agency's official inquiry on July 16. In a landslide, well over 95 percent of the comments called for rules that prohibit phone and cable companies from discriminating against Web sites or services. People from different backgrounds, living in every corner of the country, demand this basic Internet freedom. Internet users from all 435 congressional districts used SavetheInternet.com's online tools to send personal messages to the FCC. SPECIAL THANKS TO DJ CHAMPION FOR THE MUSIC! Net Neutrality

The Ninja from AskANinja.com talks about how the internet would be if "Network Neutality" was put into effect. "Congress is pushing a law that would abandon the Internet's First Amendment -- a principle called Network Neutrality that prevents companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast from deciding which Web sites work best for you -- based on what site pays them the most. If the public doesn't speak up now, our elected officials will cave to a multi-million dollar lobbying campaign." --savetheinternet.com What can you do to help Save the Internet? Sign the SavetheInternet.com petition. Call your representative today and demand that Net Neutrality be protected. Encourage groups you're part of to please join the SavetheInternet.com Coalition. Show your support for Internet freedom on your Web site or blog. Tell your friends about this crucial issue before it's too late. Add Save The Internet on Myspace.
