String Theory

The basic idea behind all string theories is that the fundamental constituents of reality are strings of extremely small size (possibly of the order of the Planck length, about 10−35 m) which vibrate at specific resonant frequencies.[2] Thus, any particle should be thought of as a tiny vibrating object, rather than as a point. This object can vibrate in different modes (just as a guitar string can produce different notes), with every mode appearing as a different particle (electron, photon etc.). Strings can split and combine, which would appear as particles emitting and absorbing other particles, presumably giving rise to the known interactions between particles. Legend of Zelda Medley in String Quartet Form

Arranged by Chad Schwartz For my Senior Cello Recital at James Madison University in March 2006, I decided that my recital needed something extra. This is the encore of my recital. If you can name all of the zelda themes used in this medley, you are as cool as me. Enjoy! for those wondering how i got the sheet music. i listened to the hyrule symphony mp3 and figured out all the parts from that and put it in finale. i then added two sections (dungeon from link 2 and zeldas lullaby) and changed around some other stuff (like adding the full version of the original). ***700,000 views! WOW!!!*** I just finished updating this medley (adding 3 more themes from WW and TP and fixing some small things) and am planning to have a video game concert on 11/15/08 at James Madison University showcasing the Zelda medley, the Final Fantasy medley, and the Mario bros. Medley! There will be videos of all these medleys posted soon after. **side note** i realize it's not completely in tune, we put it together at the last second... i actually didn't decide i was going to do it until the day of my recital.... although i must say, if i knew it was going to be this popular on youtube, i would've spent way more time on it to make sure it was perfect.

Brian Greene: The universe on a string

http://www.ted.com n clear, nontechnical language, string theorist Brian Greene explains how our understanding of the universe has evolved from Einstein's notions of gravity and space-time to superstring theory, where minuscule strands of energy vibrating in 11 dimensions create every particle and force in the universe. (This mind-bending theory may soon be put to the test at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva.)
